SOAP Method
SOAP Method
S.O.A.P. is a method of Bible reading and journaling.
It can be used with any daily Bible reading plan.
First of all, Pray for God to help you concentrate and learn what he has to say to you.
S for Scripture
Open your Bible to today’s reading. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you.
O for Observation
Use these questions to help you observe what the passage says:
What is the Bible passage teaching me about God/Jesus?
What is the passage teaching about me?
What does God want me to keep doing?
What does God want me to change?
Is there any example for me to follow? Is there any command for me to obey? Is there any error for me to avoid? Is there any sin for me to forsake? Is there any promise for me to claim? Is there any warning for me to heed? Is there any principle for me to practise? Is there any blessing for me to enjoy?
Having observed what the passage says, what strikes you and catches your attention? Write that verse (or verses) in your journal.
A for Application
What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Personalise what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now and what you should do to change. Write what you will do to apply this scripture to your life today, this week and this month.
P for Prayer
This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out. You can then go on and use your Prayer Diary.
