Get To Know Jordie McMahon

Jordie is our National Office Associate and one of our Ministry Apprentices at Macquarie University in Sydney. We interviewed her for Compass, our newsletter, where an abridged version of her interview was first published in the Autumn 2025 issue.

How did you come into relationship with Jesus?

I first seriously came into relationship with Jesus as a 16-year-old. I grew up culturally Roman Catholic, so I always believed in God and the Bible, but I did not understand what being in relationship with Jesus actually meant. In Year 11, a friend invited me to youth group with her and ever since then I have loved being in relationship with Jesus.

In what ways have Navigator communities shaped your journey?

Three years into my journey with Christ, I came across some Aussie Navs, when I was longing and praying to create deep friendships with people who also loved Christ. I wanted to be around people who I could pray with and mutually encourage. I have loved being a part of the Navigators for these exact reasons. I have found these connections and my relationship with the Lord has grown so deeply by being around – and encouraged by – people who love the Lord. I have been a part of Navigator Bible studies for two and a half years, which has been a wonderful opportunity to get deep into the word of God and grow in prayer. I have been so in awe of the Lord through these studies, in what He has taught through the Bible, and in conversations and discussions with the other people in my studies.

What is your role with our Navigator community?

I began working with the National Head Office team late last year, doing administrative work in support of our field labourers. As an Office Associate, I spend a lot of time communicating with donors and staff, providing help in different administrative areas, as well as running the bookshop and organising our national events.

Early this year, I also began my Ministry Apprenticeship, working with students from Macquarie University.

Why did you choose to be an apprentice with us and how did God lead you to this?

Becoming an apprentice with Navs was a hard decision that involved a lot of prayer and conversations with people. Ultimately, I have felt God’s pull towards ministering to young women for a long time, so I came to the decision that this is such a wonderful opportunity to grow and see God move in that area, as well as having the opportunity to trust Him more than I have ever before.

What are you praying for God to do during your time as an apprentice both now and in the future?

I am praying that the Lord will move in wonderful ways, that I will be able to grow deeper and deeper in my faith and be able to share stories of the Lord working that will impact others. More generally, I am praying for the students at Macquarie University – that they will be interested in what our group has to offer and more people will learn about Jesus. Also that through the Australian Navigators, we will be able to help people go deeper in their relationship with Jesus and grow in their faith.

Why do you think God called you to these roles? Why do you think they are important?

I have been impacted so positively by university ministries and have a strong testimony of this ministry’s importance. I think that going to university is such an influential time in a young person’s life. Whether they are moving out of home for the first time or just coming into contact with a brand-new group of people, there are a lot of changes that happen at this time. As a result of that, people often start questioning what they believe and are exposed to more options to find community. I think it is really important that we have a presence in this environment to show people what the Bible is and who Jesus is when they are in a phase of exploration, and to give them a community they can be a part of to help deal with the new experiences that come with beginning university. As well as this, all of these big changes can be very overwhelming and confusing for young people, making it really important to be connected to a good community that is rooted in the Bible and can provide support and refuge through Christ.
