Next Gen Leadership Forum and Staff Finance Seminar
By Levi Swartzentruber
We had the privilege of having Chee Hoe and Bit, Mike, and Glen from the Asia Pacific (AP) leadership team join us for a weekend of learning about “Leading Like Jesus”. We heard examples of other leaders in other AP countries who are being used by God to raise up generations of workers for His kingdom. They pointed us to the Bible, and especially the example of Jesus, as we explored the character qualities essential to leadership – humility, love, and compassion in particular. I left with a desire to reflect further on how I can grow in showing love to and sharing life with the people God has given me to disciple.
Staff Finance Seminar
Rob and Karen Mahon (from Albuquerque, USA) Grant (our National Director), Kayla Dibden (Marketing and Fundraising Manager), and Lynn Shim (Finance) shared with the staff on a number of important topics (fundraising, new policies, branding, managing finances, etc.). Perhaps the most significant idea of the three-day training was the encouragement to leave behind our “What’s in it for me?” consumer mentality and think about how we can be a family that supports and encourages each other, especially in the area of fundraising.
Asia Pacific Women’s Conference
By Jaye Cox
86 women attended this year’s Asia Pacific Women’s Conference, held in Siem Reap, Cambodia’s second-largest city. Five of us were from Australia, four from New Zealand, an American in Japan, and many others working in countries they’ve been called by God to move to. There was diversity in ministry, diversity in nationalities and diversity in personalities. It was a beautiful gathering to see!
Packed with a punch by a message from keynote speaker, Connie Ch’ng on being Christ’s “Flowing Jars of Aroma”, our main sessions focused on being Christ’s aroma, flowing from precious jars of clay. Workshops included topics on women being lifelong labourers, using our gifts to partner with men in ministry, waiting on God as a single, developing a heart for the nations, and brainstorming how to reach our generation(s) for Christ effectively. Chee Hoe and Alan Ch’ng “braved” facing the women on two occasions to share the Navigators’ Faith Directions and revisit our Core Values.
The women were clearly filled spiritually, encouraged by one another and didn’t waste time in sharing the sweet aroma of Christ. Many women made deeper connections and continue to encourage one another in living out our calling with the help of technology .
