Our Apprentices Settling In

By Levi Swartzentruber

Normally January is a gradual ramp up toward the start of the ANU year in mid-February, but not this year. Four weeks ago, on January 5, we were waiting with eager expectation at the Canberra airport for our two US apprentices, Laine and JT, to arrive. Let me share briefly some praises and prayer requests related to their arrival and the uni year that is soon to begin.

Praise God for blessing JT and Laine with:

  • places to live! Tuesday, JT will move into a share house with another guy from church at a house owned by a family from church. They are blessing him with very affordable rent. When Laine arrived in Canberra, we had no idea where she would live, but one week later, we were moving her into a granny flat rental just a couple suburbs away from us.
  • wheels, and confidence in finding their way around Canberra on their own, even on the other side of the road! Since they will be living close together, they have purchased a car to share and both have bicycles.
  • opportunities to meet several of the key students over dinner, the other AUS Nav staff at the annual January training weekend, and some of the Nav community at an Australia Day picnic.
  • a willingness to serve. They helped a student and a couple move apartments while still settling in themselves.

As we start this new year, please pray for God to provide:

  • ways to serve the incoming students which will enable us to get alongside them and build relationships, with the hope of sharing the good news of Jesus and showing His love to them.
  • a few new students for JT and Laine each to invest in, people who will be foundational for the future growth of the ministry at the ANU.
  • our believing students with a vision for labouring. We would love to see them each knowing Jesus, making Him known, and helping others do the same.

Levi and Lindsey live in Canberra with their three children, and work among students at the Australian National University. To find out more about them and their ministry, visit: navigators.org.au/staff/swartzentruberll/
